Elena Pearson Bunnell started playing the piano just before the age of 10 and has loved it ever since! She attended the School of Music at Amarillo College on full scholarship where she earned her Associates in Music majoring in piano in May of 2021. She attended Utah Valley University where she received a Certificate of Proficiency in Piano Pedagogy and her Bachelors. She is certified through the Music Teacher's National Association as a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music.
Elena has taught piano since 2013 in her own studio, other studios, and as a freelancer. She enjoys facilitating student discovery and exploration and encouraging students to challenge themselves in their personal practice time and in their lessons. She studied under Dr. Diego Caetano, world renowned pianist and recorded performer, before and during college. She has studied with Dr. Hilary Demske, Dr. Koji Atwood, Dr. Ksenia Ilinykh, Dr. Gerta Wiemer, Dr. Juliet Gamero-Preston, Dr. Emily Ezola, and Dr. Bruce Lin, and in masterclasses with pianists such as Dr. Andrew Brownell and Dr. David Korevaar. She picked up different teaching philosophies and practice tips along the way to incorporate into her own teaching. Elena also spends time accompanying choirs, church congregations, and soloists in a wide variety of pieces, from gospel anthems to hymn arrangements to classical concertos.
Outside of Elena's time spent at the piano, she plays the violin and she sings. She was in the Suzuki violin program for four years, and various ensembles and orchestras where she developed ensemble and performance techniques. She regularly participated in different camps, festivals, and masterclasses where she studied with artists like Evgeny Zvonnikov, Rossitza Goza, and Beverly De la Bretonne, a student of Dr. Suzuki. In college, Elena experimented with voice lessons and performed in a vocal studio led by performer Mary Jane Johnson. She participated in various performing choirs where she had opportunities to record new music, perform vocal and violin solos, accompany, and sing with LDS performers such as Dallyn Vail Bayles and Steven Sharp Nelson.
